![]() The tables have turned as the German emplacements and weapons are now manned by the Americans. The difference is that this time you'll be on the defensive holding back a German counterattack. As is the pattern in Call of Duty, this mission takes place in the same location as the previous mission, the town of St. With the objective completed, you'll move on to the next mission. The color of the name indicates how damaged they are. The name of each friendly trooper also appears above their head when your reticle rest on them. If a friendly soldier is blocking a door, stealing cover you need or even manning an emplaced weapon that you'd like to use, you can simply place the reticle on them and hit the fire button to make them move out of your way. This can really open up the tactical side of the game in terms of closing the distance on enemy positions, putting you in prime place to outflank an enemy or toss a grenade into their hiding places. ![]() You can readily see soldiers, friendly and enemy, start to take cover when fired upon. You find yourself picking your way through a field of dead cows on the way to the town. Having been warned of minefields, your approaches to the town are somewhat limited and well guarded by the enemy. Your mixed force will encounter two full platoons of German paratroopers, known as Fallschirmjagers. Though you're far from the other members of Baker Company, you've managed to fall in with members of other companies in the regiment. The paratrooper landings have gone wrong and the various companies are now scattered all over the landing zone. The second mission follows immediately and focuses on the attack on St. You can check your objectives at any time but having them spoken to you as the mission progresses makes things much clearer. Since you won't ever be in charge of the squad, there will usually always be a leader to tell you what needs to be done next. As part of a team of soldiers, you'll need to work in concert with the rest of the squad in order to reach optimum effectiveness. Suddenly your simple mission of lighting landing zones soon involves a bit of combat as well. ![]() Though it begins nice and quiet - it is a stealthy operation after al - things soon go bad as the first Allied aircraft appear and the German air sirens begin going off. As part of the Pathfinders, you're responsible for being first on the ground and lighting the way for the larger Allied landings to follow. ![]() Though set in a traditional action shooter format, Call of Duty nevertheless distinguishes itself by adding a new sense of unscripted, squad-based action to the mix.įor the Americans, the game begins on D-Day.
